The Problem & Solution
Car sharing service is popular nowadays. The carpooling option gives customers one more way to save money. However, being in the same space with strangers is irritating, predominantly female users.
Instago is a service that helps people carpool with somebody within their trusted community.
Mobile App Sitemap
To start with, I researched similar apps to get a deeper understanding of the competitive landscape.
I sketched the mobile app sitemap on paper several times to ensure I was not missing any important function, and to ensure the information architecture made sense.

Next, I convert the hand-sketched sitemap to digital form, which made discussion with the team easier. The fidelity is still low enough to do a quick design change.

Final Design
CREATE A NEW RIDE
One of the important feature of the app is to create a new ride that other users can join. I decided to make this feature accessible only after the users viewed existing rides. One of the main reason is that the app is not a regular ridesharing app. It's an app for carpooling, and that's why I wanted users to choose existing rides rather than create a new one every time a ride is needed.

The user can search where their trip start from and where the destination is.

The user can browse if there are people they know booking rides with similar destinations and choose whether to join them or create new rides if there is no matching ride currently.

The users have full control over how many people and whom to ride with.
Key Design Decisions:
There could be more filters about who can join the ride and who can not, which gives the users full control over whom to ride with. However, there will be too many decisions to make and causes the users' mental burden. Therefore, I only kept 3 options to select from.

The users can find the "Connections" function in the menu to manage their connections. This list affects who can ride with the users.
Key Design Decisions:
Since the relationship with the users is the most important thing for the app, this is the only extra information other than the connection's name on the screen to keep the screen easy to browse.
